So here I am in San Diego. I wasn't able to get a ticket to see Memphis at the La Jolla Playhouse. Sold out, rush only for seniors and students, and by the time I got my rental car it was almost 7:30 (curtain time) - so even if there had been tickets available I never would've made it to La Jolla in time.
But... BUT... the trip isn't all disappointments, quite the contrary. I was surprised at Hertz with a Chrysler Sebring convertible, with Sirius satellite radio. So at least for a little while, I was driving around beautiful, warm San Diego with the top down, the radio turned to channel 77, singing show tunes at the top of my lungs (including the song quoted in the subject line).
More often than not it's the simple things that remind us that life is good, right?

I went to UCSD and worked at La Jolla Playhouse for two summers. (Cherry Orchard with someone famous that I now forget, and Tommy, which won Tonys eventually.)
But I remember my last visit - I ended up with a Mustang convertable, for whatever reason. It was nice.
I'll be there for a few days in November. I'm looking forward to it.

When my parents came to visit, shortly after I moved here, the rental car place gave them a Chrysler Sebring convertible. The only problem was that it was winter and snowing and thus I realized just how lucky Californians are to be able to actually benefit from a car with a retractable top.
Too bad you couldn't make it but driving down San Diego in a convertible is a good alternative. I just LOOOOOOVE San Diego. We seriously want to move down there after our son goes to a college. I've been telling him to go to UCSD, then he'll have a place to stay too ;-P
