Well, I finished up with Flute yesterday. And it was not a fun performance. Let me back up a bit to Saturday's performance. I was feeling a little weird. Not sick, really, just "off". When I got home my stomach was really bothering me and, well, I had all sorts of intestinal distress. Or should I say "both sorts". I went to bed all feverish, and woke up the next morning around 10:30, where (unfortunately) one sort of intestinal distress continued.
I thought very seriously about calling out sick for the performance. But then I realized that although I technically had a cover for my dialogue, the reason I was given the lines in the first place is that the guy hired to do them couldn't memorize them. I knew there was no way he had been working on them since then. So I went to the show. Vocally I was fine, but every second I wasn't on stage I was collapsed on a bench, trying to rest. I was pretty miserable.
I ended up skipping the cast party - which, as anyone who knows me can attest, was a HUGE sacrifice. I got home around 6:30 and laid down on the couch. I woke up around 8:00 when a friend called to check up on me. I woke up again around 10:00 and moved from the couch to my bed, where I slept pretty much straight through until 6:30 (which is also a big deal, because I am a light sleeper and normally wake up multiple times each night).
So that was the unfortunate end to a very weird show. Aren't you glad I shared?
Oh, and I'm mostly feeling better today.
